Teacher Observation, Classroom Observation, whatever you want to call it, it equals stress.
Whether it is a PopIn observation or a formal pre planned observation you will be ready with today’s video.

First tip is to prep your students for the observation. If you teach K1, your students might not even know who the administrators are in your building. My students thought that my administrator was my dad. Truth.
So talk with them. Introduce the administrator to your class before the observations occur.

Second, prep your students on how to behave. As a bonus, have a guest greeter. This person (part of the Happy Helper Job… See that video here    • Classroom Jobs Are A Waste Of Teacher...   ) would greet the visitor, find them a place to sit and let them know I was busy. The last thing you want is your entire class shouting across the room. “ Misssss KKKKKKKK someone is heeeerrreeeee!!!!!”

Third, if this is a planned observation, do something that you are comfortable with. If your hand shakes like a leaf in a hurricane at the sight of your admin coming through the door then best to leave a lesson where you are doing a lot of writing on the board for another time. (Trust me… I learned that one the hard way.)

Fourth, set a time for them to come in that you have practiced with your kids. I liked having my admin come in first thing in the morning to see the morning routine time. Boring? Maybe. Did my admin love it? Yep.

Fifth, leave the “dog and pony show” for a time where they won’t be doing a classroom observation. If you’re having Glow Day ask them in but don’t suggest they bring their classroom observation matrix along with them.
