Over 40 years ago, more than 2,000,000 lives were lost to the brutal regime of the Khmer Rouge, led by Pol Pot, who brought Year Zero to Cambodia. Traces of the atrocities are still evident in the prison camps and Killing Fields scattered across the country as well as the residual landmines. As a result of the genocide, almost every family lost at least one member, countless children were orphaned, and the country is left haunted by memories of the brutality.
