These prestigious awards are given to MPAs that meet rigorous sciencebased criteria for effective conservation. Our team of over 30 international scientists prepare detailed reports and feedback for all nominees.

Launched in 2017, the network of awarded Blue Parks now covers 1% of the global ocean and includes a diversity of protected areas. Blue Park Awards are announced annually at high level international meetings. They attract media attention, build national pride, and open the door to funding opportunities.

Achieving the Blue Park Standard involves effective MPA design, equitable and durable governance, strong protections, strategic management planning, and high compliance rates.
