Norris 4-2-0 'Pegasus' Locomotive Bachmann with Custom DCC Fitted

A lovely little locomotive, and a slightly more obscure member of Bachmann's historical locomotives series, this is "Pegasus", a Norris locomotive with a haystack firebox and 420 wheel arrangement. Norris Locomotive Works was an American manufacturer of steam locomotives during the mid 19th century, and this prototype was one of the first commercially manufactured locomotives to feature a two axle leading truck and outside frame cylinders, ultimately establishing a shape which would become widely recognizable as steam locomotive design progressed.

The model was supplied as part of a "train pack" with an oval of track and three coaches, standard DC operation. With a little careful work I fit a decoder to the model, and it now is fully operable under DCC, allowing for much better slow running (prototypical!) control. The mechanism is still breaking in, and doing better and better as it goes. I did additional paint detailing to the locomotive to highlight a few areas and complete the model impression.

Due to the topography of the Elmhurst Model Railroad Layout, I dispensed with one of the three coaches to prevent traction issues. The locomotive soldiered on with three coaches, but there was unacceptable wheel slip on gradients.
