Norrish type I reaction is a photochemical reaction in which an aldehyde or ketone upon irradiation under goes homolytic cleavage of CC sigma bond alpha to carbonyl carbon to produce acyl and alkyl radicals. The free radicals formed by Norrish type I cleavage may undergo several secondary reactions depending upon their structures. In this video Norrish type1 reaction has been discussed in detail with an number of examples with explanation.
