Follow
Best Practice Medicine

This week on BPMTV we dive into the NREMT Skills Sheet for spinal immobilization for a supine patient. Miles walks you through all the necessary steps, then with help from the team shows a demonstration beginning to end. http://bit.ly/bpm59715

Taking proper spinal precautions is a vital skill for EMTs and other first responders. Done right, this skill can prevent further injury, paralysis, or even death during patient care and transport. Across the country recent research about long spine board immobilization is changing local protocols, so be familiar with your local regulations on how and when to use this intervention. However, as one of the NREMT mandatory psychomotor exams, back boarding continues to be a skill that needs to be mastered by EMT candidates.

Stay tuned for a future video from BPMTV detailing the differenced for seated patient spinal immobilization using a vest style extrication device like a K.E.D. As always, thanks for watching and for making the difference in your communities. Want to expand you skills? Think you have what it takes to be an EMT?
