Semi AU? not really skdjfk but I always found Blackstar's dubious grounds between evil and redeemable fascinating, and he's a character that very easily sparks conflicting views in the community. I do not judge people who hate him for who he is and what he's done, nor do I challenge fans who adore and forgive him for his dawdling attempts to put what's left of his vigorous spirit into the good of healing his clan. It's what makes him so interesting to me, a truly morally gray character who was there since the beginning and was forced to act and change throughout the series. Going from a hotblooded, impulsive and violent warrior, to a reclusive, abrasive but determined leader would force a lot of self reflection upon him in the meantime, behind the scenes that Shadowclan always seems to dwell. I haven't read his new novella, but from what i've seen I would have preferred if Stonefur was more willing to give him one of his lives, more intentional about it. Because what is the point in empowering someone who took your life if you cannot truly forgive them or see the good in the act? Perhaps Stonefur did see it that way, that he too is still healing, but it wasn't written clearly, and is an interaction that left me yearning for more of their conflicting, fractured relationship.
