This presentation by Robert Twilley, Pradipta Biswas, and Alexandra Christensen introduces NUMAR, a model that simulates the soil formation process in the coastal marsh wetland. Guidance includes (1) an overview of soil formation mechanism through mass balance of organic and inorganic matter; (2) background information on the model; (3) how the model evolved; (4) a conceptual framework of the model; (5) how to parameterize input parameters for each of the sites, including calibration and indirect estimation from available datasets; (6) how to run the model; (7) how to understand the outputs of the model; and (8) how to apply it in a landscape scale.
