Footage of 2018 New Flyer XD40 7574 operating on a rerouted M20 from the Upper West Side to South Ferry via West Street (NY9A), making no stops between 34th Street and Battery Park City. The subway was the only option for local travel south of 34th Street. This diversion and express routing almost similarly mimicked the now defunct X26 route. That route operated between Penn Station and the World Financial Center in Battery Park City, also via West Street. The route was in operation for only two years while subway service around the World Trade Center area was disrupted following the September 11 attacks. The one difference was that the X26 used 23rd Street instead of 34th Street to travel between 7/8th Avenues and West Street.

Due to the NYC Pride March & Festival, service in the East and West Village and many parts of Midtown were impacted due to street closures in and around the event route. All crosstown routes between Houston Street and 34th Street were rerouted to either one of the two aforementioned streets. In past years the closures typically go up to 42nd Street, although they have gone as far north as 57th Street. There was also no northsouth service between Park Ave/Broadway and 8th Avenue/Hudson Street between Houston and 34th Streets.
