O Clavis David, et sceptrum domus Israel;
qui aperis, et nemo claudit;
claudis, et nemo aperit:
veni, et educ vinctum de domo carceris,
sedentem in tenebris, et umbra mortis.

From 17 to 23 December, the Liturgy sings the beautiful "O Antiphons" of the Magnificat. Each of them begins with one of the titles with which the Old Testament invokes the longedfor Messiah, and ends with the acclamation "Veni" (Come). They have been known since at least the 7th century.
