The walled medieval town of Óbidos is one of the most picturesque and well preserved in Portugal. Quite close and north of the capital city of Lisbon. Located in the municipality in the Oeste region, historical province of Estremadura and the Leiria district.
In 1951 the castle and the entire village were classified as national monuments and, in 2007, it was voted one of the seven wonders of Portugal.

The best way to end your trip to Óbidos is with a shot of “ginja de Óbidos,” or “ginjinha”. This cherry liqueur is a famous local drink, and is often served in a chocolate cup. It originated with 17thcentury monks from the region, who combined Morello cherries and brandy, and drank it as an aperitif or after dinner.

Every year there is a Medieval Festival, this year – 1828 July 2024.
