You can unlock and play his prologue once you complete "Master of All Chapter 3: ""Charles the Traveler"", but you will need guide the character (essentially obtain the character) to unlock the rest of the story.

Gilderoy is one of the "original Octopath COTC 8", and can be one of the travelers you obtain at the tutorial. I would say that these eight travelers are the canon travelers for this game, even though it focuses really on the Ringbearer Chosen (as a proxy), and your band of travelers.

Maybe I should have gone with him as my Ringbearer Chosen... Ah forget it! I still like Stead! But perhaps I will swap him out with Dorothea like how I do with Jillmelia and Scarcrow in terms of my octojob team. (Who's to say I can't do so! Well technically, Octopath is founded upon only 8 travelers... but there are so many to choose from this game that I can't decide!) This character has definitely grown on me, that's for sure.
