Hey fellow YouTubers! It's your bad ol' uncle Chris here to tell y'all a little story about an epic solar power fail, that you probably never heard of.

Like all these sorts of incidents, it was a close call. About two weeks ago on a public holiday, the electricity grid in this state of Victoria, Australia, was almost overwhelmed by the huge solar power generation on one sunny cool spring day. All that power, and nowhere to go is the sort of problem that off grid systems all have to take into account, every single day. The mains electricity grid, well, it's not really designed to deal with that sort of problem, but nobody asked my opinion!

With one in three houses in this part of the world having rooftop gridtied solar power systems, we're getting to see in real time how this huge solar experiment is working out. What could possibly go wrong? Heaps, you just wait and see.

I've lived with an off grid solar power system since 2010, and it's a hippy technology which doesn't scale past hippy uses, but people want to push the boundaries.
