The 2024 GWM Cannon Alpha is looking to quickly make its presence felt, with the allnew dualcab pickup launching with not only a traditional turbodiesel engine, but also a petrolelectric 'selfcharging' hybrid powertrain that's a nod to the future of one of Australia's most popular vehicle segments.

We've already sampled the Cannon Alpha Hybrid, so now's the time to zero in on the dieselpowered variants, which are powered by a 2.4litre turbocharged fourcylinder unit that produces 135kW of power and 480Nm of torque. In fact, this engine is actually more fuel efficient than its electrified counterpart, averaging 8.9L/100km versus 9.8L/100km on the ADR combinedcycle test.
