Oiling out an oil painting with Galkyd and Gamsol before varnishing

In this video I demonstrate how I oil out an oil painting before varnishing using Galkyd and Gamsol from the Gamblin company. This provides an extra protective layer between the varnish and the painting. If the varnish needs to be removed in future this will help to prevent the painting from being damaged in the process. It will also even out the shine even before varnishing helping to give us an even surface after varnishing. There are different ways to oil oil paintings. For oiling out before varnishing I use a ratio of 50:50 of Gamsol and Galkyd. It is important to let the solution soak into the painting for 2 minutes before wiping the excess off with a lint free rag. We only want a thin even layer over the painting. After a few days the painting will be ready to be varnished. Feel free to watch my video explaining how I varnish my paintings.
