Just in time for Halloween, in this video, we explore the ruins of the long gone town of Cahawba, Alabama. This is a ghost town that supposedly really has ghosts although luckily I didn't encounter any while I was there.

Cahawba (also spelled Cahaba) was once the state capital of Alabama, until floods, the US Civil War, and financial ruin forced people to relocate elsewhere, abandoning their properties. Most of the old buildings were razed so that reusable materials like bricks could be taken to nearby Selma for use in construction there.

Today only a handful of eerie, derelict old buildings remain in these deep South woods.

I found out after my visit to Cahawba, that the burial ground in the woods is actually an African American cemetery with graves prior to and after emancipation. The latest burial there was 1957.
