On dismantling urban highways in cities | Diana Lind | TEDxPhilly

TEDx Talks

Diana Lind poses a challenge: let's reimagine the future of urban transportation and teardown highways that cut through our cities. Lind's talk discusses how forwardthinking cities have dismantled highway infrastructure building vibrant public spaces in the face of car culture. In the case of the aging Interstate 95 in Philadelphia, Lind asks planners to consider redesigning the imposing three mile stretch of I95 that separates the city from the Delaware River waterfront.

As an urbanist and writer, Diana Lind thinks about cities as collections of ideas as much as collections of buildings and people. She is executive director and editor in chief of Next American City, an urban policy media outlet and nonprofit based in Philadelphia.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, selforganized events that bring people together to share a TEDlike experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, selforganized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are selforganized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
