Volkswagen gave its ID.4 allelectric crossover a nice little update for 2024 and we've got the review!

This model first came out in 2020 and now VW has given it a refresh to keep it competitive against the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and Ford Mustang Mach E. We grabbed a loaded AWD Pro S model (sticker price: $55,695, including destination) for a weeklong drive.

Here’s an overview of what this allelectric crossover has to offer:

Exterior Design
The 2024 ID.4 retains its sleek, modern design with some subtle refinements to keep it fresh and appealing. The front has a slightly revised grille and bumper, giving it a more aerodynamic look. The LED headlights have been updated, and at the rear, the taillights also get a new design with dynamic turn signals as an added option.

Interior and Comfort
Inside, the layout remains minimalist and userfriendly, featuring a standard 12inch infotainment touchscreen with a redesigned interface, which replaces the 10inch screen from the previous model year. The touchsensitive controls on the steering wheel and center console have been finetuned for better responsiveness and the ones on the console are finally backlit (yes, they used to be unreadable at night!).

The seating has been enhanced with improved cushioning and support, making long drives more comfortable. Higher trim levels now offer ventilated front seats. The rear seats continue to provide ample space for passengers, and the cargo area remains generous, making it a practical choice for families.

Technology and Connectivity
The new infotainment system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing seamless smartphone integration. The navigation system has been upgraded with more intuitive controls and realtime traffic updates. A new headup display with augmented reality is available in higher trims, projecting important information onto the windshield for easier viewing.

The ID. Light, a thin strip of lighting that runs across the dashboard, now includes more advanced functions, offering visual cues for navigation, incoming calls, and charging status. The 2024 model also introduces an upgraded voice control system that responds more accurately to natural language commands.

Performance and Range
The 2024 ID.4 continues to offer both rearwheeldrive (RWD) and allwheeldrive (AWD) configurations. The RWD model is powered by a single electric motor producing 201 horsepower, while the AWD version features dual motors with a combined output of 295 horsepower, providing enhanced performance and traction.

One of the significant updates for 2024 is the improvement in battery technology. The standard battery pack now offers an increased capacity of 82 kWh (up from 77 kWh), resulting in a longer range.

Safety Features
Safety continues to be a priority for Volkswagen, and the 2024 ID.4 comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of driverassistance features. Standard safety technologies include adaptive cruise control, lanekeeping assist, automatic emergency braking, blindspot monitoring, and rear crosstraffic alert. New for 2024, the ID.4 now includes a semiautonomous driving mode called "Travel Assist 2.0," which provides handsfree driving assistance on highways under certain conditions.

Pricing and Trims
The 2024 ID.4 is available in multiple trims, including the base Pro, Pro S, and the toptier Pro S Plus. Prices start at around $39,000 for the base model and can go up to $56,000 for the fully loaded Pro S Plus trim. These prices reflect the additional features and improvements made over the 2023 model and don't include any incentives or rebates.

But there's more to it than that. Check out our full video to learn all about this 2024 ID.4!
