Orbital anatomy #2 | superior orbital fissure| inferior orbital fissure| ethmoidal foramina
Orbit consist of various foramina and fissures which act as doors and windows and connect the orbit to the skull and surrounding spaces. In this video we discuss in detail the anatomy of the superior orbital fissure and its contents; inferior orbital fissure and its content, optic canal and its content, ethmoidal foramina and its contents.
The SUPERIOR ORBITAL FISSURE is an elongated opening in between the greater and lesser wing of the sphenoid.its divided into three compartments by the annulus of zinn. The superior compartment transmits the Lacrimal nerve, the frontal nerve and the trochlear nerve. The middle compartment transmits the oculomotor nerve and its superior and inferior divisions, nasociliary nerve and the abducent nerve. the Inferior compartment transmits the inferior ophthalmic vein
The INFERIOR ORBITAL FISSURE transmits the infraorbital nerve
The optic canal transmits the optic nerve and the ophthalmic artery
The superior orbital fissure and the optic canal together forms the orbital apex .
The video also summarizes various important clinical aspects related to the foramina and fissures .
