I've recorded this time lapse of a brief demonstration painting an Orthodox icon of the icon of Jesus Christ Αχειροποίητος "Made without hands" for a short workshop I'm teaching. The icon took me about two hours, painted in egg tempera with natural mineral pigments on a flat gessoed panel. I use the historic "membrane" technique with an underpainting as practiced prior to 1500.
