Osteoporosis Medications and Dental Implants

The difficulty with having dental implant treatment if you have osteoporosis is twofold. Firstly bone density could be reduced, and secondly, you may be asked to take certain medication which can put you at risk of something called 'necrosis of the jaw'.

Here are some of the most common Bisphosphenate treatments which can increase the risk of this condition.

Commonest oral BP = Alendronic acid (“Fosamax”)
Commonest IV BP = Zoledronic acid (“Aclasta”)
