Ōtātara Pā Historic Reserve is one of the largest and most ancient Māori pā sites in Hawke’s Bay region of New Zealand. Pā in maori refers to a maori village or defensive settlement. It is usually a fortified settlement with palisades and defensive terraces. we can see the remains of two ancient pa sites in this reserve. Centuries back up to 400 people lived in these two pa sites.
