The complexity of our nervous system is individual, ancestral, and collective. In every human body lives a collective nervous system.
How can we discern between individual trauma and ancestral trauma? I can try to intellectually figure that out, but the only way I can really discern it is when I can feel it, when I have a direct experience of either a biographical trauma, an ancestral or a collective trauma in myself. Because if I can't access those parts of my own nervous system, there's no way I can tune into somebody else's ancestral trauma. We need to develop these competencies.
In our separate, hyperindividualized world, we put a lot of energy on the individual and less energy on the ancestral and collective space because we were more trained to be a person. Ancient wisdom traditions are more aware of that.
