Porto is an unbelievable city for food, and this food tour was something that we've been so excited to do. Check it out!

We started the day off like every other vlog except rather than focusing on coffee shop itself, we’re more interested in the kind of coffee we were getting. We got Galão, which is essentially a large glass of milk with an espresso shot in it. It’s quite a long coffee, so it’s good to get with something a bit savory like a cake. In our case we got probably the most famous dessert in Porto, the Pastel de Nata. This is an egg custard tart pastry. You’re going to notice throughout a lot of this vlog that we’re really leaning into the desserts as much as anything else because Portugal has some really fantastic dessert options to choose from.

Now I’m going to go ahead and admit that the second stop isn’t technically Portospecific or even Portuguesespecific, but we love a good brunch and you’ll be hard pressed to find a spot better than Zenith Bruch & Cocktails. We loved what we saw online of this place so I figured we'd add it to the experience since this place has great looking smoothie bowls, whereas just about everything else that was on the agenda was…not as healthy.

As we said earlier, a fair amount of what we got wasn't very healthy and that includes the next stop LOL. We’re headed to Pastelaria e Confeitaria Moura. This is a family run bakery that’s been around for over 120 years. We went to hunt down their Jesuitas. These are light, puffy pastries that jumped off the screen to me when researching things to try. I also read that a good way to eat it is to pull them apart and place the sugar layer face down on the other half to make a ‘sugar sandwich’.

Next we decided to deviate from the sweets for a moment. We went to a place called Taxca to try their famous Cured Pork Sandwich & enjoy it with a glass of Espadal. They’ve been serving these sandwiches since 1965 & it’s a major staple for the people in Porto. If you’re wondering what Espadal is, it’s a sparking rosé wine. This is on a ton of food tour itineraries for Porto online so apologies for taking the idea to anyone watching this that operates those here in town. I couldn’t leave this out!!

Next we changed clothes and went to find a happy hour. Although I was unsuccessful in this endeavor, we were able to find some Port Wine and it was delicious!

Dinner was were things got a little wild and eccentric for us. We tried to eat dinner at a place called Escondidinho do Barredo, which translates (on google that is) to Mud Hideout. I found that absolutely hilarious and promptly added it to the list. We went to try three delicacies here in Porto and these delicacies were codfish balls, sardines, & octopus. Unfortunately though when we arrived, they were randomly closed. Restaurants in Europe really have a tendency of opening and closing when they want LOL. Although we faced a bit of adversity in finding a restaurant, thankfully we made it to a place right on the Douro River that had all three! Also, our new friend Megan got the Francesinha which put the perfect cherry on top of an incredible dinnner!

We couldn’t end on sardines & octopus, Hannah would’ve never forgiven me. I also didn’t want that to be the last memory of our time in Porto SO, we ventured way off the Portuguese menu and head to a really cool Gelato shop that’s open late & had a great variety of flavors. We’d have loved to stop in one of the Confeitaria’s again but they all close at 8. However we’ve found that in Europe when everything else is closed, the gelato place is open. We really just didn’t want to go home without having a little bit more sweets.

Thank you so much for tuning in! Our next vlog will be exploring Lisbon so stay tuned for that in the coming days. See you soon!!!
