Who are the Little Rascals you may ask? The Little Rascals or Our Gang was a series of short films that was way ahead of its time when it first aired because it brought kids of all genders, ages, races and backgrounds to situations that pushed them to be together. Those kids however when they grew old, they had hard lives and bad endings, some believe it’s a curse what happened to them.

Hi guys and welcome to Historicly, for today’s video we’re going to be showing you where the cast of Our Gang is today, what happened to them? What went wrong?

Carl Switzer portrayed little Alfafa, after the shorts he had trouble finding himself in big movies. He landed small parts in films like It’s a Wonderful Life and The Defiant Ones, however no matter what he did, he remained broke and was shot to death in 1959 after an argument allegedly about money, he was 31.

Harold Switzer was only an extra in the shorts, he killed his own girlfriend and then himself in 1967, he was 42.

William Thomas portrayed Buckwheat. He took a different approach to films, instead of being in front of the camera, he turned behind them and worked as a film technician. He was found dead in 1980 due to a heart attack, he was 49.

Robert Hitchin portrayed Wheezer. He was a cadet in the Army Air Corps, he was killed in 1945 during an exercise with a plane. He was 19.

Matthew Beard portrayed Stymie, he struggled with heroin addiction for a long time and found shelter in prison more than once. Even though he defeated his enemy, addiction. He died in 1981 at the age of 51 due to pneumonia related stroke.

Darla Granson, portrayed a character named after her. She appeared in a few roles that didn’t find much success. She was in the 1977’s remake of The Little Rascals which revitalized her career, unfortunately she contracted hepatitis while and died at the age of 47 in 1979.

Norman Chaney portrayed Chubby. He was named Chubby in the shorts because of his large weight which was a result of a glandular anomaly. In 1935 he had a surgery to treat his condition, even though his weight dropped he didn’t live his disease and passed away in 1936 at the age of 18.

Scotty Beckett portrayed a character of the same name. He was the cool kid with the cap turned to the side. When he felt that the acting career was failing, Scotty found solace in alcohol and drugs. His life was pretty hard, he had two failed marriages and wasn’t a good law abiding citizen. In 1968 he checked in at a nursing home in Hollywood after someone allegedly beat him up. He died a few days later at the age of 38. However a suicide note was found and some pills.

William Laughlin portrayed Froggy. When he was delivering newspapers in his scooter he was rearended by a truck in 1948, he was only 16.

Richard Daniels portrayed Mickey. Didn’t have much of a successful career in movies, he was estranged from his wife and children and unfortunately found dead in a hotel room in 1970 at the age of 55 due to a cirrhosis of the liver.

Mickey Gubitosi portrayed Bobby Blake and I believe later went on by that name. He’s an odd case, he was charged with killing his wife in 2002 and a few years later a jury found him not guilty, in the eyes of the public his innocence is questioned. What do YOU think, did he break the curse?

Robert Young portrayed Bonedust. He passed away at the age of 33 in 1951 after he fell asleep with a cigarette in his hand which resulted in a fire erupting.

Jay Smith portrayed the freckle faced little boy named Pinky. In 2002 he was stabbed to death by a homeless man, his body was dumped in the desert of Las Vegas, he was 87.
