OXALATESA Hidden Cause of Chronic Disease.

Oxalic AcidA tiny molecule that is naturally occurring and when attached to a mineral it is called Oxalate. Oxalates form crystals like calcium oxalateKidney stones. (80%)

Sources:
1. Certain plants make oxalates for mineral management, seed germination and selfdefense. High oxalate foods include spinach, rhubarb, beet greens, chard, certain nuts and seeds, cocoa powder, figs, kiwi turmeric and certain teas. (2040%)
A single green smoothie with 2 cups of spinach contains about 1500 mg of oxalates.

2. Oxalate is a metabolic waste product in mammals with no known function. (6080%)
Higher amounts of oxalates are made when:
**Deficient in B6
**High doses of vitamin C are taken or injected. Vit C is partially converted to oxalate.
**Some fungi make it, possibly for mineral management, especially in soil.
**Can be made by Aspergillus fungi living in the body.
Oxalates are antinutrient by stealing minerals. Soluble oxalates attached to mg, ca, fe, zn, cu etc. which can cause mineral deficiency in growth, reproduction.

Negative impact of Oxalates
· Corrosive to lining of GI, stresses the kidney, deposits into arteries and other tissues.
· Triggers inflammation causing membrane and mitochondria damage, fatigue.
· Nerve damage and brain.
· Depletes antioxidants i.e. glutathione.
· Destroys connective tissueinjury prone and poor recovery.
· Uses vitamin B6 depleting B6 which in turn causes increase bodies production of oxalates. Depletes biotin.

That is why it can create so many symptoms: GI, lung, genitourinary, bone health, brain. Association with mood, fatigue, vulvodynia, autism, gout, joint pain, osteoporosis etc.

IBD, gastric bypass and antibiotic therapy can increase oxalates. Certain bacteria in the GI can break down the oxalates.

Oxalate issues are not sensitivity or allergy, it’s toxicity.

Oxalate dumping
Strategies
**Eat less than 50mg of oxalates per day.
**Increase water consumption.
**Increase calcium citrate, magnesium citrate, potassium citrate intake.
**Boil the high oxalate foods which will decrease it 3087%.
**Take a B complex with B6(P5P)
**Lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidobacterium lactis have enzymes that degrade oxalates.
**Chondroitin sulfate and biotin
**Lactobacillus Acidophilus
**Bifidobacterium Lactis
**Lemon juice in water
**Epsom salt bath
**genetics

Oxalate are excreted through feces and kidney(4050mg/day)
No best test for oxalates.
Patients with advanced kidney deposits of oxalates can show very little oxalates in the urine.
Organic acid testing could give us clues to oxalate issues and candida.

Genetic SNP for SULT(Sulfotransferase)oxalate problems can negatively affect this pathway in the liver.
