Apologies for the music which cut in during the start of the first lap; Airshow Audio decided to test the sound system right as Voodoo took the course, much to the dismay of the many spectators and media.
Piloted by Steve Hinton, Jr. at the 2017 STIHL Reno National Championship Air Races, the highly modified P51D Mustang "Voodoo" currently sits at the pole position after posting a fast qualifying time of just under 480 MPH. Recently stripped of its iconic purpleandcheckerboard paint, Voodoo was painted bare white in order to shed as much weight as possible for an attempt at the 3km PistonPowered World Speed Record, a record which Team Voodoo set at 531 MPH. Congratulations to the team and to Steve! Team Voodoo will now attempt to beat out another highly modified P51D, Strega, to defend its Unlimited Gold title.
