On a beautiful, clear January day in 2022 we followed two of Amtrak's Southwest Chief trains, one in each direction between La Junta and Glorieta. There are some locations where the railroad comes right up to the highway, and with some luck and good timing, you can follow the train as you drive.

0:00 Westbound Train 3: Between La Junta, CO and Trinidad, CO on Hwy 350 near Model. P42DCs 158 and 29 power the train along with a nice older K5L.

2:06 Eastbound Train 4: Between Las Vegas, NM and Raton, NM near Watrous. P42DCs 82 and 78 were in the lead on this day. Really cool to see the suspension working overtime on the jointed rail!
