"He was able to see into people's hearts"
Padre Pio: Miracle Man (Italian: Padre Pio) is a 2000 Italian television film directed by Carlo Carlei. The film is based on the book by Padre Pio: The Man of Hope by Renzo Allegri and depicting the real life events of a Catholic friar and later Saint Pio of Pietrelcina.

1968: in San Giovanni Rotondo, Apulia, old Padre Pio is dying, seriously ill. During the night, a mysterious cardinal arrives, who seems to come only to annoy Padre Pio and taunt him with all the shortcomings of the monks during his life. Padre Pio then captures the moment to tell all his secrets, starting from childhood.

FILM OF THE FILM:

The young Francesco (Padre Pio), was born in a small town in Campania (Pietrelcina), and underwent conversations with God, but was also besieged and tormented by the devil, who manifested himself in the form of a black dog. After a few miracles, Francesco became a novice and went first to Molise, then to Pietrelcina (his hometown), and then to San Giovanni Rotondo. He also received the stigmata of God for his faithfulness, and in a convent in Apulia he decided to stay for life. Immediately his fame grows throughout Italy, but the Vatican believes that the stigmata are false, and condemns Padre Pio. But the crowd of faithful is growing, and at the end of the story the Pope decides to change his mind.

Padre Pio was a Capuchin friar and priest born in 1887 in Pietrelcina and died in San Giovanni Rotondo, where he lived much of his life. He was canonized in 2002 by Pope Saint John Paul II. His most important work was the founding, in 1956, of the Casa Alivio del Sufedor hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo, under the pontificate of Pius XII. Padre Pio was also known for his passionate stigmata, that is, wounds in the places where Christ had the nails on the cross. He spent a long time of his life confessing and was followed by a huge number of people, who considered themselves his spiritual children. He was able to see into people's hearts, to know things that no one told him and to anticipate events. At the same time, he was the object of calumnies, espionage and prohibitions that accompanied him throughout his life.
