Do you want to make your paintings more painterly? : Then break the rules with 'Wrong' Colors and learn to paint loosely. Learn a new painting technique.

Getting hung up on recreating a photo reference EXACTLY will hold you back. Instead, use the photo just as material. Try your level best to uncouple yourself from it and impose your story upon your painting. Paint loosely. Ask yourself what your trying to convey here. Is it a story about glorious Mediterranean heat and clear skies? Or a rainswept Irish glen...or a showy bouquet of flowers...? Loosen up; tell a story and use your colour palette like descriptive words.

If it were a poem, what would you write? So instead of: "I walked about a bit on my own", it would become, "I wandered lonely as a cloud", as the Heineken beer ad used to have it!
