Painting the Stubble with Hogs || Invasive Feral Pig u0026 Fox Pest Control Shooting in Australia

Follow
EDGE of the OUTBACK

This contracted shooting job we are out targeting invasive feral pigs / hogs and the odd fox. Things get a little wild in and around the sorghum stubble, I'm running my 308 Winchester rifle pretty hard sometimes, fitted with the Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XL50 1024x768 HD thermal scope. There's plenty of actionpacked footage in this video, mostly after dark, but also a little in the daylight. If you're seeking a video with bulk shooting footage and some Aussie shit slinging between mates, this is your happy place !!!

Access into this area is with my mates Polaris XP1000 Northstar side by side ATV buggy. This machine is purpose built for his contract shooting business and works amazingly well in the terrain type we are in. Big thanks to my unnamed mate "Bucket" for the callout seeking assistance on this control program. Yes, this is "work," and we are out shooting from late afternoon nearly right through till dawn. But that doesn't mean we don't get to have a few laughs in the process.

For thermal scanner duties, I'm running the amazing Pulsar Merger LRF XL50 thermal binoculars in a chest rig. I'm yet to use a device it's equal in image and functionality in all aspects. This IMO is the best thermal scanner you can buy as of posting this video in May 2024.

On the roof of the Polaris ATV we are using a Thermtec Wild 635L thermal monocular for vehicle based scanning when mobile. Worked amazingly well with a great WIFI signal, sharp image, plus the LRF was one of the most powerful I have ever used.

If you are interested in a thermal or night vision device in Australia, have a chat with Ben from Hunt the Night. He supplied me with the Thermtec Wild 635L to test, generally has the best prices, but definitely the best support and thermal knowledge. Supporting him, helps support me make more video's, so a win win.

We are not shooting feral pigs for human consumption on this trip. It is purely pest control of invasive species in Australia. These uncontrolled animals are an environmental and agricultural menace, often carrying bacteria and diseases like brucellosis. Pigs are left where they lay as carrion. Nothing generally lasts more than a week in the Aussie bush before it's just a few scattered remains.

I am a vertebrate pest control contract shooter in NSW. For those wondering about the equipment being used, both my mate and I hold the necessary permits and licences when working under paid contracts in NSW. This isn't hunting, it's professional pest control. If you are seeking information regarding that, please check the FAR webpage for details in your state. All shooting is performed on privately owned farms, with exclusive permission granted in writing for paid services.

Please don't ask how much I earn or how to become a contract shooter, I'm not a business adviser. The requirements and information vary state by state, if seeking this information, research your own states legislation. I get this question a LOT, and it's not a path I wish to go down on social media. I share some of what I do with these video's, but, if it's a path you wish to follow, that's on you to research (as I did).
