It's our first Asian #stegosaur! Pleasing absolutely nobody, the Skeleton Crew takes 30 minutes to explain how little they know about an obscure little dinosaur from the Middle Jurassic of China! Found in the Shaximiao Formation with nearly a dozen other species of small stegosaurs, Huayangosaurus is important in providing our only glimpse of the earliest stage of the evolution of armored dinosaurs on the lineage that eventually led to its larger, more famous cousin Stegosaurus. Huayangosaurus is a dilemma for us scientifically interesting and very cute, but not showcasing many of the traits that made the real dinosaur something very special indeed.
