Smt.Nithyashree Mahadevan's Papanasam Sivan Krithis.

Papanasam Ramayya Sivan (26 September 1890 – 1 October 1973) was a composer of Carnatic music and a singer. Papanasam Sivan's early years were spent in the Travancore area of Kerala where the kings patronised fine arts. He was born at Polagam village in the district of Thanjavur, which was home to the musical trinity of Carnatic music. His given name was Ramaiya.
Papanasam Sivan was most interested in the devotional aspect of music. He preferred to sing devotional songs and encouraged other singers take part in sessions of devotional music with him. Papanasam Sivan was a regular performer in the main temple festivals in South India with his devotional songs.

Later in 1962, Papanasam Sivan received the President Award, and in 1969 he received the Sangeetha Kalasikhamani Award bestowed on him by "The Indian Fine Arts Society, Chennai". He was conferred the Sangita Kalanidhi in 1971.

He was awarded the Madras Music Academy's Sangeetha Kalanidhi in 1970. He was also a film score composer in Kannada cinema as well as Tamil cinema in the 1930s and 1940s. Sivan was also known as Tamil Thyagaraja. Using Classical South Indian as a base, Sivan created compositions popularised by M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar and M. S. Subbulakshmi.

In 1962, he was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship conferred by Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy for Music, Dance and Drama.

Nithya Sree Mhadevan is a classical phenomenon of a stunning stature, shining like a beacon among the younger generation Carnatic vocalists. She has the blood of the century’s great music maestros coursing through her veins – the mridangam maestro Palghat Mani Iyer, her maternal grandfather and the living legend in Carnatic vocal music Dr.D.K.Pattammal, her paternal grandmother. Although the finer nuances were taught by her grandmother, it is remarkable that Nithyasree has carved out a distinct style for herself and emerged as a serious artiste.

Gifted with pleasing voice that moves with liquid smoothness over three octaves, Nithyasree maintains perfect command over intricate and enticing rhythm patterns in her rendition of Swaras.

Nithyasree’s sincerity and dedication to the art, her emotive rendering of the Krithis and the passion and fervor with which she performs on the stage are certainly bound to mold her into an artist of the highest caliber.
