Susan Leahy - Roberts Rules Made Simple

Welcome to Part 5 of the Chair a Meeting with Confidence MiniCourse by Susan Leahy, MA CSP, the creator of RobertsRulesMadeSimple.com. In this video, Susan shares valuable insights on how a chair can use the agenda to guide their thinking and keep meetings on track.

As a professional speaker, trainer, and coach, Susan has worked with over 8,000 boards across the US and Canada, helping board members learn the fundamentals of Robert's Rules of Order to get work done. If you're a board chair who wants to feel more confident when running your next meeting, Susan's practical and straightforward process can help build your confidence and competence.

To start, make sure that every meeting you chair has an agenda. Without an agenda, a meeting can quickly become a waste of time. If you're meeting without an agenda, post the agenda on the screen or make sure to list what items you'll be addressing during the meeting.

Susan also emphasizes the importance of following any state or federal regulations regarding the posting of agendas to avoid issues. During the video, Susan will encourage you to ask yourself a couple of questions regarding each item on the agenda: "Is this an information item?" and "Is this a business item?"

For business items, you only use Robert's Rules of Order in your meetings. For information items that don't require a vote, make sure to move through them effectively and efficiently using facilitation skills.

As a chair, your meeting agenda is an essential tool, and in this video, Susan provides helpful tips on how to use it effectively. If you want to learn more and work with Susan, visit www.RobertsRulesMadeSimple.com for Board Development & Robert’s Rules Made Simple Training.
