We cross the north of Neuquén, in the Argentine Patagonia, from San Martín de los Andes we go along route 40 to Chos Malal, taking about 5 and a half hours, and from there take the scenic provincial route 43, passing through Andacollo, Huinganco, Las Ovejas , the Puntilla viewpoint, which offers wonderful views of the Neuquén River and the Cordillera del Viento, to reach our destination, Varvarco, a small town of 800 inhabitants and 1,250 meters above sea level. There we stayed at the Varvarco inn, located with views of the junction of the Varvarco River with the Neuquén River.
In Varvarco we made a base to start the tour to the attractions offered by the Domuyo protected natural area, where we visited Los Bolillos, a very particular mountain formation, the Atreuco drawer and Aguas Calientes town, where we enjoyed a river of thermal water with the exact temperature.
There is still a long way to go in this wonderful area, but it is necessary to do it in springsummer, Los Tachos with the geysers, the base of the Domuyo volcano, in the Covunco drawer, the Varvarco Campos and Varvarco Tapia lagoons, the Epulafquen lagoons, Manzano Amargo and the La Fragua waterfall, places that we will visit at another time of the year.
