Antonio Malvaso, MD, IRCCS “C. Mondino” National Neurological Institute, University of Pavia, Pavia, Italy, discusses autoimmune encephalitis, a group of related conditions in which autoantibodies attack selfantigens expressed in the central nervous system, inducing brain inflammation. He highlights clinical manifestations, including cognitive impairments, memory issues, behavioral changes, and seizures. The impact extends to the peripheral nervous system, potentially causing conditions like neuromyotonia and Morvan syndrome. Dr Malvaso notes that some autoimmune encephalitis cases are associated with paraneoplastic syndromes, emphasizing the importance of monitoring for tumors. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) Annual Meeting 2024 in Helsinki, Finland.
