A social branch of Heart to Heart First Aid CPR Services Inc., called the JohnstonBrais Initiative, is proud to present "Peer Support Responder". We will provide a FREE 2.5 hour specialized training course in Overdose Prevention Resuscitation (OPR) and FREE supplies/PPE for those who are most likely to encounter, witness, or experience opioid poisoning.

FREE supplies include: BagValve Mask with HEPA filter, hardcase pocket mask, PPE (KN95 mask, gloves, gown, face shield, pocket mask, eye protection), Canadian Red Cross minifirst aid kit and a Canadian Red Cross emergency responder backpack.

Courses will start June 1, 2021 and run through July. This initiative is 100% sponsored by Heart to Heart First Aid CPR services to announce our JOHNSTONBRAIS INITIATIVE that honours those all those who have lost their lives to the opioid crisis. We will accept 100 responders for this first round of training.

Peer Support Responders may be part of an emergency response team in a highrisk apartment complex, neighbourhood, or community housing. This program can also include an individual (family member, friend, peer, neighbour, resident) who may be acting as a “monitor” for someone who is using drugs. They may be individuals who use drugs themselves and have agreed to take turns with their peers to monitor each other. Bringing this training directly to the people at risk will give them the knowledge and skills to provide lifesaving care to each other and those who are in the immediate area.

We will train to empower “Peer Support Responders” so they can empower others.
We are confident that this initiative will save lives and provide a platform for offering similar standardized programs across the province, including our Indigenous communities. We aim to create a selfsustaining program of peers protecting peers and where students can become instructors. We are starting this program in Downtown Toronto East June 2021 and will extend this training to remote Indigenous communities in Northwestern Ontario very soon
