Rising to more than 900 meters of altitude, the medieval Castle of Penedono, classified as a National Monument, has more than 1000 years of history.
The village of Penedono was the birthplace of Álvaro Gonçalves Coutinho, the famous Magriço, immortalized by Luís de Camões in the epic poem "Os Lusíadas". 15, would have become the perfect model of the medieval knight.

It is located in Beira Alta, in the Douro subregion and belongs to the Planalto de Penedono landscape unit. Village located north of the district of Viseu at a distance of 75 km from the district capital.
