Relaxing walking tour of Peniche, Portugal, with detailed historical information and context! Located 90 km (56 miles) northwest of Lisbon, Peniche is a picturesque seaside town that was as island until the 16th century, and is now located in a peninsula, due to sediments transported by the Atlantic Ocean.
Peniche is bestknown these days for it's worldclass north and westfacing beaches, which attract thousands of travelling surfers every year, as well as for the Peniche Fort, a 16th century fortification with a turbulent history.
