Located 90 km (56 miles) northwest of Lisbon, Peniche is a picturesque seaside town that was as island until the 16th century. Peniche is one of the best surfing locations in Europe. Home to many surf schools, Peniche annually hosts a stage of the World Surf League, at the Supertubos Beach. It is currently the only World Surf League stage held in Europe.
