Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia) | Risk Factors, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment

Persistent depressive disorder is a longstanding, chronic mood disorder involving depressive symptoms along with a variety of other symptoms that causes significant impairment in social and/or occupational functioning. There are certain risk factors for persistent depressive disorder including a family history of depressive mood disorders and past traumatic life experiences among others. In this lesson, we discuss the DSM5 criteria for Persistent Depressive Disorder, including a mnemonic to help remember symptoms and how to diagnose this condition, along with treatment methods.
