As close neighbors, India and Nepal share unique ties of friendship and cooperation characterized by an open border and deeprooted peopletopeople contacts of kinship and culture. Nepal shares a border of over 1850 km with five Indian states – Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. There has been a long tradition of free movement of people across the border between both nations. The multifaceted relations between the two countries have been given a renewed momentum in the last few years through intensified highlevel political exchanges and regular meetings of bilateral mechanisms across diverse sectors of cooperation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Lumbini in Nepal on Monday. This is considered to be a short but significant visit.
