Thousands of refinery locations across the United States require groundwater assessment efforts to effectively evaluate gasoline, diesel, and other petroleum hydrocarbon products that contaminate a site’s underlying groundwater. These nonsoluble contaminants are also referred to as light nonaqueous phase liquid releases, or LNAPL.

Steve Boynton, owner and operator of Subsurface Environmental Solutions, joins product manager Drew Dudley as they present a case study where Surfer and Voxler were used to model a petroleum refinery’s soil saturation based on large LIF and CPT datasets. The case study incorporates 3D gridding techniques, surface generation, and the development of a 3D model to clearly delineate the extent of the LNAPL release. Steve Boynton will present his assessment of the site based on the final model generated in Voxler, including characterizing the mobility and recovery of the LNAPL.
