PHENYTOIN : Antiepileptic Drugs

An antiepileptic drug that inhibits voltagegated sodium channels in the brain, which reduces the excitability of neurons. Used primarily for tonicclonic and focal seizure prophylaxis. May also be used as a secondline drug in status epilepticus. Possible side effects include StevensJohnson syndrome, gingival hyperplasia, hypertrichosis, and fetal hydantoin syndrome.
