Philosophy 4: Oriental Thought Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism
EPISODE 77 of BUT THAT IS ANOTHER HISTORY (web documentary series)
Eastern philosophy
Oriental thought, that great unknown in the classrooms of the West. In this video we will briefly review the life of Buddha, Sidarta Gautama, and his philosophy of life, Buddhism. He tried to put an end to his inner suffering and he succeeded, reaching Nirvana, thanks to introspection and detachment.
Theravada Buddhism over time was divided into other currents, such as the Mahayana that came to China and Japan thanks to their Bodhisattvas, and the Vejrayana, which settled mostly in Tibet, giving rise to Tantric or Lamaist Buddhism, with the Dalai Lama as a leader.
In China, before Taoism Buddhism came from the hand of Lao Tsé and Confucianism by the hand of Confucius. Both sought that the rulers were not ruthless bastards, and one was dedicated to meditate in quiet places and another to set an example to others and to create codes of conduct.
