Phnom Bakheng is the name of a cultural and historical resort in Angkor Park, Siem Reap province.
Located between the Tonle Sap Lake and Phnom Kulen, Phnom Bakheng emerged simultaneously with Phnom Krom and Phnom Bok at the beginning of the 4th era. The location of the three natural mountains combines into a triangular point to form a symbol of the trinity according to Brahmanism. This is why the Khmer king at the end of the 9th century, King Yasovarman I decided to build a capital called Yasodharapura. According to the inscriptions of Sdok Koh Thom, this place is called Yoshodharagiri, which is the name of Phnom Kandal in accordance with the symbol of cosmolog.
