Piezoelectric Effect

• Piezo derived from Greek word 'piezein' meaning 'push'.
•Discovered in 1880 by Pierre Curie in quartz crystal.
• There are 2 forms of piezoelectric effect
1) Direct Piezoelectric Effect
2) Indirect or Reverse Piezoelectric Effect

DIRECT PIEZOELECTRIC EFFECT is the generation of an electrical voltage across the crystal when it is compressed or expanded.

REVERSE PIEZOELECTRIC EFFECT is created when an alternating current moves through the crystal, producing compression or expansion.
