Today I wanted to archive something scary again and so that means it's time for another horror game. Pine Harbor actually released a demo last year that seemed very promising and the overal vibe felt very much like an homage to Silent Hill. Not just in terms of looks and feel, but also in gameplay aspects where the game does not hold your hand at all.
It has a bit of a slow and lengthy intro, but once you are let loose and can explore the town it is really cool. The atmosphere is so tense and it really made me wish we had a first person Silent Hill game in the style of the recent Resident Evil games. It runs on the Unreal Engine 5 which is why it looks so gorgeous and it just oozes detail and atmosphere wherever you look.
The game is pretty short at the moment, but one objective has you looking around and exploring the town as you look for supplies. There is crafting too and overal it was just really cool to explore this little town that is hidden in a thick fog.
There is some good variety with you also going into a bunker where it feels more linear and overal the game just has great promise. It is a bit short and can sometimes be a bit confusing on what exactly your objective is. I also think the voice acting needs a bit of work since the models and characters look so great, but the voice acting is hit or miss.
Lastly I do want to praise the design of the monsters and especially the last boss is amazingly designed and straight up like something out of the movie The Thing. It gave me goosebumps to just see it move and overal I cannot wait to see what the developers will do with this promising indie title!
