Planting Bulbs in Containers for Spring (when you can't plant them in the ground!)

Today I am sharing planting bulbs in containers for Spring. I have a bad vole and gopher problem that is continuing so I can't plant them in the ground. The voles and gophers have eaten all my bulbs including my 1000's of tulips I had lining my entire garden along with the Asiatic, Trumpet and Oriental lilies, my alliums and hyacinths!

How can I have beautiful Spring bulbs and keep them safe from these voracious creatures??? I plant them in containers and raised beds.

I showed a container planting video last Fall and was accused of it being click bait since I did not show how well they did. So, I started this video with a brief clip of Spring bulbs of many kinds in containers blooming beautifully.

Then I proceed to share how I do it. And what I am using to keep the squirrels and raccoons from digging them up. (so far it is working great!)

So this coming Spring I get to have my Spring flowers from bulbs despite the critters!

I garden in Zone 8a in the mountains of N. California. Though that sounds warm it is a challenging climate for gardening here. I am surrounded by 200 foot tall conifers which block a lot of sun and we get heavy wet snows along with late Spring freezes, which can cause a lot of damage. On the west coast USDA zones are not exactly accurate. The topography of the landscape makes for varying microclimates. Our last freeze is typically the final week in May.
