Plate Tectonics u0026 Paleogeography as Viewed from Space - Scotese Animation

Follow
Christopher Scotese

This animation shows the plate tectonic and paleogeographic development of the Earth during the last 540 million years. The land areas (green) and mountains (brown) continuously change due to erosion and the rise and fall of sea level. New mountains form as continents collide or rift apart. Shallow seas (less than 200 m deep) flood the continents (light blue). Sea floor spreading takes place in the deep oceans (dark blue) at midocean ridges. The dashed line across the globe is the Equator.
